Brussels Sprouts |
A lot of people are scared of Brussels sprouts but we love these as a great side vegetable with Turkey on Christmas Day, or indeed any time of the year
People are also heard saying Brussels sprouts can only be enjoyed if roasted and "burned" this is nonsense, you can enjoy them as they are boiled and tossed in Butter
I promise you will like them
This is a simple recipe using only Brussels sprouts, butter and fresh ground pepper
You will need
Brussels sprouts
1 tbsp Butter
fresh ground pepper
pinch of salt
- First clean the Brussels Sprouts and then cut the stub off the end, and pull off the small outer leaves
Brussels Sprout |
- Using a knife carefully cut a cross on the end this will help the end to become tender once cooked

- In a large pot, boil up some water and add a pinch of salt, add the Brussels sprouts and simmer for 10 minutes until softened but not mushy

- Drain water from pot and add butter and fresh ground pepper to taste to the pot, and stir until butter has melted and has evenly coated the Brussels spout

I can't say I ever had brussels sprouts, but they look really good! Do they taste like boiled cabbage?

They taste like a stronger version of cabbage, similar but stronger, oh and delicious :)
DeleteBrussel sprouts are not many peoples favorite food but I like them. I knew someone that cut them in half and fried them in butter. Not healthy but very good.

I am so glad I found this (clicked over from Classy Clutter Spotlight Saturday). I rejoined Weight Watchers (I'm a lapsed lifetimer, lol), and have promised myself to try new vegetables. I have turned my nose up at Brussel Sprouts for years, but love cabbage so I will be giving this a try. Thank you!

Glad to see brussel sprouts making a comeback! Thanks for sharing at Foodtastic Friday!
ReplyDeleteIn any case, dissimilar to most vegetables, Brussels sprouts are somewhat high in protein, representing more than a fourth of their calories. spruitjes roerbakken
ReplyDeleteAdd some crispy bacon pieces and toasted cashews to the cooked brussels and warm through.
